2012 collection curated by DJ, producer, label owner and record collector Gilles Peterson, who pays tribute to one of his favorite labels: Black Jazz Records. Far more than simply a "Best Of" collection, Gilles successfully links the disparate corners of Black Jazz's first class Soul/Jazz/Funk catalog from 1971 to 1976, with tracks by Calvin Keys, Doug Carn, Kellee Patterson and label head Gene Russell, while making the listener nearly forget the thread that ties the tracks together.
Tracks:
1.1 Black Jazz Radio Intro
1.2 The Awakening - Awakening Prologue: Spring Thing
1.3 Gene Russell - Black Orchid
1.4 Rudolph Johnson - the Highest Pleasure
1.5 Henry Franklin - Beauty and the Electric Tub
1.6 Walter Bishop's 4th Cycle - N'dugu's Prayer
1.7 Doug Carn - Higher Ground
1.8 Cleveland Eaton - All Your Lover, All Day, All Night
1.9 Roland Haynes - Second Wave
1.10 Kellee Patterson - Maiden Voyage
1.11 Calvin Keys - Aunt Lovey
