Invincible Syncopations is the first CD devoted entirely to the piano music of Vincent Matthew Johnson, one of the most inspired and remarkable composers of ragtime in the past half century. Like Scott Joplin and Joseph Lamb, Johnson infuses his works with haunting, bittersweet melodies and seductive, syncopated rhythms; but these are not merely "sound alike" works - Johnson's rags retain an individual flavor all their own. Pianist Max Keenlyside's interpretations are a wonder in themselves: musically sensitive renderings that bring out the full beauty of Johnson's compositions. The CD includes a 24-page illustrated booklet with liner notes by William McNally. 19 selections. 80 minutes of music.
